Haotang Village of Xinyang city, Henan Province was entitled as one of the most beautiful villages in China by Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People’s Republic of China(MOHURD) in 2014.In order to deepen the understanding of its development, case center director Mu Ling, case center staff Zhoumeng, post-doctor Wang Haixia and Wan Tingting from Institute of Rural Studies, doctoral student Jiang Huangfu and master student Pan Xinren from SPPM, Tsinghua University went to Haotang Village to conduct a four-day research from April 13 to 16.

During the research, the research team interviewed several important people involved in the whole process of the construction of Haotao Village, including Xinyang City Mayor Qiao Xinjiang; Sunjun,the village construction expert ,who contributed a lot in Haotang reconstruction for over 10 years and believed that “Make villages more like villages”; Village Secretary of Haotang Hu Jing, who, as the vital driver of Haotang Village, introduced the history, development, and status of Haotang Village; villagers about their feelings about Haotang Village and changes happened there; Wang Jijun, Party Secretary of Pingqiao District, Xinyang City, who held that the village development should take its own time and villages are valuable, farmers dignified and agriculture promising.

Through this meaningful research, the team has a better understanding about the internal institutions of Haotang’s development model with superior government’s guidance, the support both from the village Party branch as well as the village committee, inner impetus of the village and the participation from all aspects of society. After this research, case center achieved a new perspective of agriculture, rural development and farmers, the innovative cooperation between the government and society and leadership, which will lay a solid foundation for case development in the future.
