Beijing City Management has constructed the “Internet of things” platform to serve as a medium for city management. In the effort to promote the use of the internet of things, big data, mobile internet and the application of new generation information technology and fully support the creation of the model 2.0 knowledge- oriented and innovative society, the bureau created three main platforms and three business models, that overall promote the refinement and intelligentization as well as socialization of city management.
In order to deepen investigations into the development of smart city management for Beijing and its practical results, and cultivate talented public management personnel by launching cases study. Case Center director of SPPM, Tsinghua University, Mu Ling, led Case Center workers as well as Public Administration doctoral and master students to visit the Beijing Comprehensive Administrative Law Enforcement Bureau for a research trip. They received strong support and encouragement from the Bureau who arranged a visit to the Beijing City Management Internet of things Command Center and held a seminar.

This research visit provided much detailed information and material for cases to be made on smart city management in Beijing, with a particular focus on understanding the process of operations for Beijing City Management’s Internet of things platform, as well as how they accomplished results and faced difficulties. The visit laid a strong foundation for case study on the subject.
