On October 31, 2012, Mu Ling, Director of China Case Center met Ms. Kirsten Lundberg, Director of Case Consortium @ Columbia (CC@C), Columbia University, to have a discussion on case studies.
CC@C is a new venture that grew out of the former Knight Case Studies Initiative (2007-2011). The Consortium is an interdisciplinary curriculum production unit based at Columbia University. It produces cases on journalism, public policy and public health. Till now, its journalism cases are used in 105 schools by thousands of students around the world. The cases fall into five categories, including multimedia cases, video cases, text-only cases, Spanish-language cases and contributed cases.
The meeting enhanced mutual understanding of the two sides. During the meeting, Ms. Kirsten Lundberg introduced the cases and the casing writing mechanism of the Case Consortium @ Columbia, and the situation of case teaching in Columbia University. Besides, she showed great curiosity and interest towards China Case Center. And Director Mu introduced the case categories, the case writing model and the achievement of China Case Center. The two directors exchanged their views on case teaching method and case writing. They also had a further discussion on the possible cooperation of case studies in the future.
